You’re not restricted to a standard side by side layout for rooms with twin beds.
Below are several very creative professional designs showing how each person can have privacy in a shared room. If a personal decorator isn’t in your future, perhaps you’ll be inspired to attempt a DIY version.
1. The Easiest DIY Privacy Version for Rooms with Twin Beds
Crisp Architects lays out a room with the beds back to back (here). This construction free layout uses the headboards as a dividing wall. However, there are multiple versions of this layout style that do require construction. If you prefer a more sophisticated design, check out this beauty by Crisp Architects.
2. L-Shaped Corner Beds with a Dividing Privacy Wall
This design effectively uses up the corners in a room. With one twin bed pointing one way and the second one the opposite way, each person can enjoy privacy. You can check out this lovely design by Rudloff Custom Builders here. You’ll notice that the dividing wall goes all the way up to the ceiling and features built-in shelves. If you prefer a half wall, take a look at this design by Baxter Design Group.
3. Affordable DIY Privacy Solution for Shared Rooms – Privacy Tents
When construction isn’t an option and purchasing new beds is out of the question, try privacy tents. They’re affordable and offer a temporary practical solution for a shared room. College dorms are the ideal use for these!
4. Drapes Around Each Twin Bed
Of course, you can DIY this one, however for a more polished professional look, take a look at this room by Bella Design Studios. Installed crown molding on the ceiling supports and hides the drapery rod installation. If that sort of detail isn’t a concern, you can skip the molding and install the rod directly onto the ceiling.
