Use Posters and Prints as a Visual Aid to Teach Proper Hand Washing
The saying that most everyone uses is while washing our hands; we should sing “happy birthday.” When we’re finished singing the song, we’ve washed our hands for the correct length of time.
Displaying a handwashing poster in your business washroom or home is one way to “encourage” people to “remember” to wash their hands.
It doesn’t hurt to have a brief explanation of proper handwashing techniques as well.
Global Pandemic – Proper Handwashing from the CDC
Since we are living in unprecedented times, I wanted to include a video from the CDC that gives you valued information on handwashing. Here it is:
Proper Instructions for General Hand Washing with Soap and Water:
1. Wet your hands with warm, running water, apply liquid soap, or use clean bar soap. Lather well.
2. Rub your hands vigorously together for at least 15 to 20 seconds. Scrub all your hand surfaces, including the backs of your hands, wrists, between your fingers and under your fingernails, and don’t forget your thumbs.
3. Rinse well.
4. Dry your hands with a clean or disposable towel or under the hand dryer.
5. Use a towel to turn off the faucet, not to transfer “germs” back to your hands.
Sounds simple. Almost too simple to post, yet how come not everyone does this? Sometimes reminding people about the “simple” is necessary. We’re living busy lives; we dash to the washroom most of the time in a panic because we’ve waited too long. Then we dash out because we’re fighting the clock.
Something simple like basic hand washing instructions, and a Hand Washing Poster (a picture is worth 1000 words), can help to slow us down:
