It Doesn’t Have to Be Valentine’s Day to Deck Out a Room with Heart Decor
If you’ve decided that a heart-themed room is what the doctor ordered, remember to use the floor to complete the overall look.
When we decorate, we tend to think of furniture, bedding, drapes, pillows, throws, and artwork; we sometimes forget that the floor can also be a piece of art.
The best part of floor decor is using the area as a focal point. This is especially useful if you have ample open space. For example, using an area rug with hearts serves two purposes: creating a defined space and a chance to include a unique design and pattern.
The best, most practical use of an area rug with hearts is against a neutral/less patterned backdrop. Soften a bedroom’s feel by placing a busy rug with hearts in front or by the bedside. Complete the heart theme with heart-shaped wall art, heart-shaped pillows, and heart-themed lamps.
Don’t be shy about the home’s main room either; an area rug with hearts can easily fit in a living room. Just remember to go easy on all other patterns included. The secret is ‘bold subtleness.’ The area rug makes a bold statement but, using solid-colored furniture, drapes, and lamps, screams, “I’m subtle.” When people enter a space where there’s ‘just enough pattern, they won’t feel overwhelmed, and best of all, they grasp your intention.
How About a Contradiction Theme?
If you enjoy being different when decorating, consider decorating a heart-themed space in a color other than red or pink.
That’s right. Bring heart decor into your room, but choose a color scheme that completely contradicts what people think of when they hear “hearts”. How about a blue heart-themed room or a black heart-themed room? Your creative energy will be given a chance to shine! How much fun would a black-and-white heart-themed room be?
